Between having a couple asthmatic kids who are higher risk and a local case coming through the preschool, we’re playing it safe both ways and exercised our option to take the Sunday obligation dispensation.

Ecclesial law can be dispensed but not divine law, that is, keeping the Sabbath day holy. Due to a time zone snafu, we turned on the @notredame basilica Mass to see the post-communion prayer starting so we found the Mass from @sfdiocese.

We set a little bit of environment, blessed ourselves with holy water when entering our temporary “chapel”, picked our own opening, closing, and communion hymns (using the old hymnals that @st.ignatiusmartyraustin gave away when the parish bought new ones). We prayed along with all of us who are only able to “see each other in the Eucharist” (to quote @bishopwack) and made a spiritual communion as a family.

We’re going to experiment with other ways to be a domestic church when we can’t be with our parish church (more Liturgy of the Hours besides Night Prayer as a family? Our own communal reading of the day’s scripture?)

What are y’all doing during this extraordinary time? (at Austin, Texas)
